Herculaneum and Naples

Everyone has heard of Pompeii, the famous ruins of the town destroyed when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. Herculaneum was the town next to Pompeii which was also covered. It is the smaller of the two towns and there is more to see, as it is better preserved. When Joe and I have done this trip, we then carry on a short distance to Naples, which we really like, it is vibrant and lively, plus there is the L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, the birthplace of the original Margherita Pizza. Wow, it is good pizza! There is usually a queue to get in. This is the place where Julia Roberts ate Pizza in the film ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ and you have got to try it. It’s simple, and the best Margherita ever.
